PHOTOGRAPHY & IMAGE EDITING | CREATIVE CONTENT

When I came into marketing, digital imagery was changing quickly along with technology. A couple years removed from processing film in a dark room, my first product catalog project involved transporting our 700+ SKU line to the professional photographer's studio. For this edition, our products were to be photographed using their first digital camera they'd just purchased for $40,000. They also clipped and cleaned all the images before sending to the design agency. Two years later, I was photographing everything in-house with our own company DSLR camera, in addition to clipping and cleaning all the images.

Two different super imposed views of a marking laser with a new product feature

Product Photography & Image Editing

In this dual photograph, we were highlighting a new product illumination feature. Due to clean-room production and safety requirements, each laser product emerged from production with a label affixed on all four exposed sides of the head, including two on the front and two additional labels on top of the black base. I had to digitally remove each of these labels for all our marketing efforts.

Working within the John Deere design specifications, laid out the product label and displayer graphics for this photograph taken in our national warehouse in Louisville, Kentucky. This was the first assembled production unit of this displayer after securing national placement at Lowes. Months earlier, I photographed the same display with in-house produced product labels and a superimposed corrugate graphic for presentation purposes.

A Craftsman label diplaying a photograph of a lawn tractor lifted by a steel lift

Product Photography & Image Editing

After production had fabricated the prototype model, we made arrangements with a local Sears mall store for a morning photo shoot to photograph our product on a variety of new lawn and garden tractors and mowers that were displayed in the store prior to store opening. These photographs were taken early in the product development process. Labeling, engineering, packaging, and the product itself was very fluid and compounded by the product's obvious liability issues. After the original photographs were taken, I had to later edit the product photographs to add a 3' safety bar, changed the plastic handle grip to foam, and the support arms changed color twice.

The main photograph in this superimposed image was taken in a traditionally lit room, but photo edited the image to appear dark to highlight the new illumination feature. This photograph was featured on the cover of a product catalog as well as a trade show booth sign for the European market.

Professional photograph of an outdoor lighting fixture

Product Photography & Image Editing

This is one photograph of a new 24-SKU line of exterior lighting products. While we inked a private label brand with a regional distributor, we also developed a non-branded line for our own sales efforts. These photographs appeared in product technical sheets, brochures, catalogs, online, and on packaging for three different companies.

A consumer retail lawn cart

Product Photography

Under the direction of a new General Manager, we planned on a significant marketing push by booking our first booth at the National Hardware Trade Show. In addition to a couple new products, we also wanted a new product catalog and large format signs for the booth. For these product photographs, I tutored two college interns in product photography while I cleaned the images and managed vendor communications.

A consumer retail lawn cart

Product Photography

I worked on one private label development project for Sears at a different manufacturer that raised my eyebrows from a loyal consumer perspective. I'd been a generational Craftsman tool buyer. My workbench still has Craftsman tools my Grandfather purchased. This proposed private label product was dressed down to meet a marketing pricing target instead of upholding Craftman quality...which was really disappointing, personally.

An industrial marketing laser

Product Photography

Product photography and cleaning of 18-SKU line of commercial lasers. Each laser product is constructed in a clean room and incrementally affixed throughout the assembly process with a handful of warning and operation labels before exiting the assembly area. Constructing just a shell for photography purposes was not an option. For clean marketing photographs, I had to digitally remove up to seven labels on each product.
